Join SOLVE and ODF for the Annual Spring Cleanup!
Help care for the Demonstration Forest and Arboretum by assisting with light trail maintenance and invasive species removal. Volunteers will help identify and remove plants such as English ivy, Scotch broom, and Himalayan blackberry, which threaten native ecosystems and cost millions to control in Oregon’s parks, forests, and agricultural areas.
About the Area
The C.J. Reed Arboretum, established by ODF foresters in the 1960s, honors Chet Reed, who served as Astoria District Forester from 1955 to 1978. Brochures are available detailing nearly 40 different tree species, along with tree identification signs featuring QR codes for additional information.
The Bill Lecture Demonstration Forest Trail, dedicated on June 24, 2023, was inspired by Bill’s vision in the early 1990s, when he served as Assistant District Forester, to enhance forestry education at the local and county level. Just minutes from Astoria, this non-motorized trail system offers a one-mile loop and several secondary loops, winding through diverse forest settings. Popular for hiking, biking, and dog walking, the area also features a picnic table—perfect for a snack after your adventure!
